About this service

High blood pressure (hypertension) is a common condition that significantly increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney disease. Many people live with high blood pressure without any obvious symptoms, which is why regular monitoring is so important. At our pharmacy, our trained team can quickly and accurately measure your blood pressure using a clinically validated device, providing you with an immediate result and a clear explanation of what it means. If your reading indicates a concern, we can advise on lifestyle changes and refer you to your GP or another appropriate healthcare professional for further assessment. This service is available without an appointment and forms part of our commitment to supporting preventative health in our community.

What to expect

A brief discussion about your health history and any relevant symptoms or medicines you are currently taking

Your blood pressure will be measured using a validated, calibrated device, usually twice to ensure accuracy.

You will receive a clear explanation of your results, including what the numbers mean for your health.

If your reading is outside the normal range, we will advise on next steps, which may include a referral to your GP.

Why Monitoring Your Blood Pressure Matters

High blood pressure is often called the 'silent killer' because it rarely causes noticeable symptoms until serious complications arise. Regular monitoring is one of the most effective ways to protect your long-term heart health. Simple lifestyle measures, such as reducing salt intake, increasing physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight, and limiting alcohol, can make a meaningful difference to your blood pressure. If medication is required, your GP will discuss options with you. Do not stop any prescribed medication without first speaking to your doctor or pharmacist. If you experience sudden severe headaches, chest pain, vision problems, or difficulty breathing, please call 999 or attend your nearest emergency department immediately.
